The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls

After reading the entire book my opinions have changed a little bit. I do like the book a bit more and I have more sympathy for the characters more specifically Rex. We start to see how Rex is trapped in his situation and how tragic it truly is. One scene that stuck out to me was the passage that described Rex getting put into the hospital and getting sober for a little. He got sober for a bit and made a life for himself but was dragged back down

Hudson wells by none other then his own wife. He got out of poverty but was pulled back in by one of the only people that was supposed to love him. If you like books that do a very good job at character development you will like this book. The book is written if first person point of view and it expresses this by focusing in on the emotions that Jeannette feels in the moments of the events. Overall I think that this book does a good job at tying up loose ends 2y
Hudson wells and creating a sense of sympathy for the characters in a way that doesn‘t make the reader feel overly sad. I think that this feeling of sympathy without sadness is what Jeanette wanted and I also think that this book did what it was tasked with flawlessly. 2y
MissYaremcio I agree, Rex is a sad character and the second half of the novel really allows that empathy to develop! Great work overall! 6/6 2y

The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls

Mehso-so

The Glass Castle is a story about the author, Jeannette Walls, and her dysfunctional family. This book book dives deep into the absurd stories that Jeannette has about moving from place to place and living in poverty. Jeannette‘s father is a heavy drinker and always seems to be able to turn things bad. If you like books that make you feel likely you have been punched in the feelings this book is for you.

Hudson wells As for the theme of this novel I think that it has to do with the idea that you need to make the best of the cards that you are delt. I see this theme multiple times throughout the book mostly when a horrible thing has happened to Jeannette and her family and they try to turn it around for the better. Overall 7/10 because it‘s good but just not for me. 2y
MissYaremcio I like the “punched in the feelings“ description - very accurate! 6/6 2y

High-Performance Training for Sports | David Joyce, Daniel Lewindon

I haven‘t been reading this book for long however this book goes over the science behind the physical aspect of training and how the body adapts to training stimulus. This book stresses that training must be specific to the sport being trained. I like books that cover sport science in detail. I find it fascinating how much the body can adapt quickly. There is no theme as this is a scientific textbook.

MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Hudson! This post was on POV so if you want to add POV just tag me in a comment! I like the background you created! 4/6 2y
Hudson wells This book is written in 3rd person objective POV. @MissYaremcio 2y
MissYaremcio Thank you Hudson - as you explained to me in person how it is established I will give you a 6/6 2y

This phenomenal work of literature is teaching me lots about the ways that pro athletes cope with the high stress of competitions. I have barely started however the first chapter goes over “The Science of Suffering and that some pro athletes not only put up with but seek out discomfort in the world of sport. I like books that go over the science and mentality of sports so this was a perfect fit for me. The theme (if any) in this book is that to be

Hudson wells better than the competition, you need to step out of your comfort zone as throughout the book every point seems to drift back to discomfort and the crazy beauty that we call competition. 2y
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Hudson! You like to read a lot of nonfiction don't you? 6/6 2y

I have continued reading this book and it has moved more into what foods you should be eating instead of what the foods do in your body. The most interesting thing that I have taken away from this book so far is that most competitive athletes are not eating enough carbs so they are not training optimally. It has also broken down what supplements do in the human body.

Hudson wells It covers why taking a protein supplement may be beneficial, and what creatine does in terms of muscular development. I would classify this book as more of a report than a story, that means it must be in 3rd person since there are no characters. This book is nonfiction meaning that it is based on real research that he has found from varying sources. If you like books that can help you beat the competition in sports, you will like this book. 4y
MissYaremcio Great work Hudson! I feel like if I read this book I would have to take notes while I read! 6/6 4y

This book shares so much valuable information about nutrition and recovery. I am halfway into the book but I have already taken away so much valuable information about the bacteria in the gut and how it changes and responds to what you eat. This book helps with general health, sleep guidelines, recovery, and nutrition. (continued in comments)

Hudson wells This book highlights the overlooked sides of health. I enjoy books that involve sports performance or improvements in strength. This book was perfect for me because I knew a lot about exercising but not a lot about nutrition. I would recommend this book to anybody trying to improve their athletic ability. 4y
MissYaremcio Well done Hudson! I would have liked a little bit more description as to the theme but as it is a fiction novel I recognize that it can be difficult to do so but you did a great job at identifying it! 5/6 4y
